At first, I definitely conceived of Waldteufel as a clean break with the decadence of CW, a 'pure' embodiment of my Nordic spiritual path, and musically very different. With the passing years and a more relaxed perspective on CW, I have started to reincorporate aspects of that project into Waldteufel as I find them appropriate.
One of our main goals is to promote lesser known artists. Our fundamental criteria are music and consequence in representing the artistic vision. If a young act can express itself as an experienced and mature band, why shouldn’t we show it to a wider audience? Everyday something new is happening in music, we are very curious what this is, and we’d like to watch these movements.
To me, the tangible and really spiritual elements that I grew up with are much more feasible. Yet there are paths outside the prescribed ways of a council-formulated and regulated faith. The music of WERKRAUM may or may not be influenced by that. That isn’t a conscious decision. One thing that was conscious, though, was the reference to St. Augustine’s ideas in “Dignitas Dei” and “Civitas Dei”.
My purpose wasn't trying to make dark folk album with "straight forward guitar.” The purpose was to create esoteric, ritual album, very imaginative. The album, making special, Northern mood, leading through the ancient roads, where northern winds and the howl of the wolves are binding in magic reality.
I can see semistardom at the horizon as a tiny pixel, so don’t ask me how it feels. Beyond The Void has a lot of passion and desire to procreate, but we are mostly powered by ourselves. We have no huge label behind us, branding our logo into the foreheads of the masses.
