M Slagle - An Explanation Of The Past

About structure, patterns tend to get superposed to make the music gradually more complex. The three first songs begin with samples. Often there’s a low vibration looping on the background (“Meer Meer”, “Faceless” and other tracks), on which there are one or several layers of more industrial sounds, sometimes completed with sweeter synths. All tracks evolve slowly, adding patterns, changing combinations, but keeping always the same tempo, which sets a really calm atmosphere.

M.B. - Neuro Habitat

Here is an album of, at times, rigid mechanical madness, with scathing static loops in the role of percussion and thoroughly bizarre keyboard tones that hammer out eerie, confounding chords.

M.B. - Regel

The music is unlinear and effortlessly multilayered. The sound focuses on texture rather than structure.

M.Peck - Dysmha

A level of above par production must be mentioned.  In a word, it’s flawless.  M.Peck’s technical ability is about as close to perfection as a performer can come to. Already known to the electronic scene as a maestro of ominous dark ambient, he brings us Dysmha.

M2 - Aswad

This is a review not to be missed by dark electronic music fans! M2 - Aswad is a phenomenal new release comparable to the works of Muslim Gauze, This Morn Omina and Ah Comma Sotz though truly uniuqe in its own right. Combing dark ambient, rythmic industrial and ethnic elements Aswad is a a must have album.

Macelleria Mobile Di Mezzanotte & Profile - L’Ultimo Veri Bacio

There are also differences, as this album is far more cinematic in scope– “Farewell, my Lovely” features a distorted spoken sample from what I imagine to be a film noir from years gone by, replete with jazz wailing in the background, whilst the repetitive string refrain of “Blue Tango” could have been the soundtrack to a film – perhaps for a James Bond film? Oddly, the following track is entitled ‘Diamonds are for Never’, an obvious pun on the Bond film “Diamonds are Forever”, yet this number is a more conventional industrial track, featuring a rhythmic backing, akin to a clock ticking, for some synthwork.

Macelleria Mobile Di Mezzanotte - La Dolce Vita

But all is not as it would appear. The serenity is often subverted with shrieking scribbles of high frequency distortion, lurking in the background before lunging forward and overwhelming all that lies before them. The track Only For Lovers is a fine example of how this is used to great effect, the chilled ambeince of saxophone and trumpet lulls us into a false sense of calm before a screeching mass of distortion sweeps in, its harsh discordance in stark contrast to the rest of the track. .

Machinery - The Passing

The fact that there are still shredders like like Mano Lewys out there waiting to be discovered is uncanny.  Machinery just began their descent into thrash-death hell in 2001, and since not a single member has become part of any other notable act...

Machinist - Black Block

The vision confronting us is a bleak prospect indeed; emptiness, desolation, ruination and ultimately soulless. Van der Broek piles on the lengthy deeply rumbling, dark, and densely-packed drones, stacking one upon the other, creating and constructing a black, weighty, monolithic mass of heaviness and brooding malevolence. The air is thick with treacly fogs and choking smogs, physical miasmas stifling any life that has dared to carry on the legacy of earth and nature. Landscapes have been denuded and eroded; where once were vast cities, themselves choked with the hustle and bustle of commerce, traffic and life, nothing remains but toothless and eyeless ruins, or level plains of compacted rubble, forever archaeologising whatever was left of the creature called homo sapiens.

Madadayo / Jean-Philippe Dauphin - Split Release

This is a thoroughly rewarding listen. As an edition of 31 copies, good luck getting your mitts on one. If you can then you should certainly do so...a diamond in the rough as they say. Good shit, as I say.
