T'an! Kaven!! Ash!!! is the experimental/noise/industrial subdivision of The Eastern Front label, established in 2006 and issuing alternative genres on CD-R format in limited editions of hand numbered copies. Kadaver is a one-man project of Michael Zolotov, a noiser, anti-musician from Israel, an owner of certain sense of humor (see myspace page), the destroyer of harmony and the author of releases that are difficult to perceive.

Kadaver (“carrion”, “corpse”) has been functionating since 2003 with the first releases coming in 2005. “Some Animanls Are Equal” is approximately 9th release of Kadaver, produced on a mini CD, limited to 99 copies, having a fancy cover pic with women (some of them made me think to nuns) having fun and sometimes almost unbearable ear-violating noise inside. What Kadaver is about? There are different reasons to create (anti)music: some people need to create because they like to create, other people need to create because it is the way to let something staying inside of them out (creating for themselves). Probably here we have the second case – letting out all the anger, accumulated during the years, hatred towards mankind, building up a thick wall of sounds, producing a certain atmosphere of depression, pain, despair of one’s life.

Musically “All Animals Are Equal” mostly consists of noise without ambient layers some bands add to smoothen the sound a bit. The opening track, pleasant as tooth-ache in the mornings, is sawing your brain and gets into it with its high-frequencies like a drill, makes you grit your teeth, yet having a kind of “melody”, which sometimes ,surprisingly, reminds of old russian folklore songs. The second and the third tracks are a bit calmer and much more bearable, having a few layers and a kind of a rhythm – especially the third track, Bukkake Zombie, where the rhythmic structure consists of a few elements and is more complex than in the second one, Flowers of Flesh. The third track indeed reminds old thrash movies: you get an image of an upcoming threaten when a human figure (the only thing one can recognise on a large distance) is slowly approaching you. “Clouds of Meat” sounds completely insane – it reminds distorted sound of hand-organ (which usually gives an idea of some mystery, something evil yet interesting) saying “Traveling freak circus has arrived to the city! Kids, prepare yourself for the slaughter!”. The last track’s title can be translated as “snake, snake, snake” or “guess, guess, guess” or something related as far as my unassuming knowledge of hebrew allows me to show off. It is the only track that has the kind of ambient background that smoothens the sound, which from time to time makes one think to screams. The track itself is somewhat can be compared to whispering and hissing thanks to unceasing noises, repeating over and over.

It is up to you to decide whether to give it a try or not, whether to get it or not. Just notice that there were only 99 copies issued, it was a year ago and you’re certainly not the only one interested in getting this release.
